When did you join Myca Health?
In June 2009. What was the opportunity/challenge that appealed to you most? Myca Health has a culture that not only fosters innovation and creativity, but also offers stimulating challenges that are rewarding and help individuals grow professionally. What particular leadership skills do you use every day? I am a strong advocate of collegiality in teams and the democratization of power. Health informatics is a field where a bottom-up approach can be successful, and we must leverage this incredible opportunity. What past experience best prepared you for your role at Myca Health? Being a supervisor at Cardinal Health/CareFusion gave me the opportunity to refine my management skills. But, I think that my years playing and coaching basketball also gave me tremendous lessons in leadership and life. Finish this sentence: I know I’ll have met my own expectations here when _________? Myca is on the “Fortune 500 Best Companies to Work For” list. A Tuesday afternoon meeting is cancelled at the last minute. How do you spend the unexpectedly free time? Health IT is a fast-paced, ever-evolving industry, so we always need to read and learn about new things to be up to date. Richard Branson once said: “I’m not in the airline business. I’m in the business of entertainment at 32,000 feet.” Can you redefine what Myca does in a similar way? We are not only in the business of creating great software; we are in a business where we can use the fruit of our labour to help people live better lives. It is a privilege. Favorite movie of all time and why. Shawshank Redemption. You learn in this movie that patience, perseverance and wit can get you out of any challenging situation. On a lighter note, every IT manager should watch Office Space. There are a lot of lessons to learn from it. |
